New social housing for East Brisbane

Artist impression of a common area

We are building new social housing in East Brisbane.

Everyone deserves a place to call home and this new housing development will provide much needed housing to people at risk of homelessness.

The new development will provide 121 self-contained homes for Queenslanders in housing need.

The two buildings – one twelve storeys and one thirteen storeys - will be built on Wellington Road and Kennedy Terrace, East Brisbane, with two street frontages. Features of the building include a communal rooftop space, shared ground floor communal facilities, onsite services and basement car parking.

The development will be a supportive accommodation model, which provides long-term, secure and appropriate homes for Queenslanders who need a place to live but also support to improve their wellbeing and social connections.

Who will be moving in?

New residents may include families, people with mobility issues, and seniors.

Co-design for social housing tenants

We have worked with housing and homelessness stakeholders and housing older women groups for input in early stages of the design and development of the building.

Many of the homes will follow design standards to meet the needs of seniors and people with disability.

The Wellington Road building is designed for families with a combination of two and three-bedroom self-contained units and communal spaces on each level (twelve storeys). The Kennedy Terrace building is designed for seniors with one-bedroom units and a communal roof garden (thirteen storeys).

The buildings have been architecturally designed with consideration for the aspects of the units, tree planting around the building, and location of windows bringing light into the residences. Construction is expected to start in late 2025.

The Fortitude Valley Housing Service Centre and other services will refer tenants to live in the property.
