My Housing Options
We’re committed to supporting people with disability to access safe, secure and affordable housing that meets their needs.
One of the ways we are delivering on this commitment is through My Housing Options – a website and toolkit to support people with disability to find and secure a suitable home.
This initiative is funded through our Disability Housing Action Plan, which outlines how we are working in partnership with people with disability and their supporters, the housing sector and disability support groups to expand housing options and pathways across Queensland.
About the toolkit
The My Housing Options website and toolkit has been co-designed by Queenslanders with Disability Network together with people with disability and in collaboration with housing and disability support organisations and Queensland Government agencies.
The website and toolkit provide information and practical resources to help people with disability – and those who support them – to:
- explore their housing choices
- understand available options
- plan for the future.
It is a flexible resource that can be used over time, allowing individuals, families, carers and support networks to revisit information whenever they need.
Who can use My Housing Options
The My Housing Options website and toolkit are for anyone with a disability who wants to better understand their housing choices.
Families, carers, service providers and housing providers can also use the toolkit as a resource to better support people with disability in their housing planning.
Housing options covered
The toolkit covers a range of housing options, including:
- private rentals
- public and community housing
- specialist disability accommodation
- living with family or housemates.
It also acknowledges the challenges around housing availability, affordability and people’s eligibility, supporting informed decisions and planning for people with disability.
Co-designed with people with disability
The website and toolkit were created through a co-design process led by Queenslanders with Disability Network, that included:
- people with disability
- their families or carers
- Queensland Government agencies
- housing and disability support organisations.
Co-design ensures that the voices and lived experiences of people with disability are at the centre of My Housing Options. The materials reflect what matters most to people with disability when exploring and planning their housing options and are available in formats including workbooks, guides, videos and more.
Training and support to use the resources
Queenslanders with Disability Network will deliver training and education to support people with disability to use the website, toolkit and workbook to plan their housing and living options.
This training will be available to:
- people with disability
- their families and/or carers
- housing and support providers.
