Advocacy support for people with disability
Disability Advocacy Pathways (Pathways) is a free service that assists Queenslanders with disability—along with their family, friends, and carers—to find the right independent advocacy support for their needs and location.
Pathways refers people to independent disability advocacy organisations funded by the Queensland Government, through the Queensland Disability Advocacy Program. Advocacy supports can also offer specialised support for:
- children and young people
- First Nations people
- people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
Pathways can also connect people with disability to independent advocacy services if they are:
- experiencing homelessness
- at risk of homelessness
- living in residential services including private boarding houses, where 4 or more residents rent rooms, and share communal facilities.
Pathways is delivered by Queensland Advocacy for Inclusion (QAI).
The Queensland Disability Advocacy Program funds organisations to deliver advocacy services that can help you to:
- understand your housing rights
- make informed decisions to secure a home
- address discrimination, conflict and unfair treatment
- fill gaps in support
- navigate the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and access health, housing, homelessness and disability services.
