Domestic and family violence

Women and children who have experienced domestic and family violence need immediate access to safe and secure housing with appropriate supports to help recover from crisis.

The Housing and Homeless Action Plan 2021 - 2025 (PDF, 3466.73 KB) will deliver $20 million to:

  • provide additional Flexible Assistance Packages for people experiencing domestic and family violence, for essential goods and services needed immediately to maintain or access safe housing, such as:
    • paying for removalists
    • furniture or white goods
    • home repairs from damage due to DFV
  • deliver additional headleased housing
  • provide specialised frontline housing services through our Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Response Team. The team supports frontline housing staff and multi-agency High Risk Teams to identify safety issues, tailor housing assistance and coordinate with the broader service system.

This new investment is in addition to the new and replacement domestic and family violence shelter infrastructure we have delivered in Coen, Roma, Caboolture, Coomera, Cleveland, Cherbourg, Pormpuraaw, Woorabinda and Southport. This infrastructure was codesigned with sector specialists to meet contemporary service needs.

We will continue to grow housing options for people experiencing domestic and family violence by leveraging new housing supply through the Queensland Housing Investment Growth Initiative.
