Community Renewal helping employment prospects in Townsville
Do you need help with writing a résumé, searching for a job, computer technology or planning your career?
Helen Clarke, Project Manager with the Townsville Community Care Centre which runs the Vincent Job Club said the service has already benefited many Townsville residents.
“Since it began in 2005, the Job Club has provided 133 local residents with employment support and has seen 78 residents obtain jobs,” she said.
Local resident Hopora Hanlon experienced first-hand the benefits of a visit to the Vincent Job Club when she was looking for work.
“I was able to get help with my résumé and selection criteria, and with my interview skills,” she said.
“I have now found a job as a Support Worker for homeless women and children. Job Club really helped build my confidence and self-esteem.”
The Department of Housing, through its Community Renewal program, funds local projects like the Vincent Job Club as well as other projects which promote health and wellbeing and enhance local facilities such as community centres and parks.
