Transfers

Department of Communities (Housing and Homelessness Services) tenants can apply for a transfer to another property if they can demonstrate a definite need to move to more appropriate housing.

Note: it is an offence under the Housing Act 2003 to knowingly provide false and misleading information to the Department of Communities that may influence decisions made about your eligibility for housing services.

Applying for a transfer

  1. Complete the PDF transfer application form (71Kb) in full.
  2. Attach the necessary evidence to support your transfer request.
  3. Ensure all legal tenants (people who signed the Residential Tenancy Agreement) have signed the transfer application form.
  4. Send the transfer application form to your nearest Housing Services office for assessment.

The department will advise you of the decision in writing or will contact you for further information if required.

Help with your transfer application form

You can have a formal or informal Guardian or Administrator, friend or advocate help you complete your transfer application form.

The department can also arrange an interpreter if required.

Assessment of your transfer application

If you are approved for a transfer, you must list six locations (suburbs, towns, cities) of your choice, except where you have a demonstrated need to live in a particular location.
