Can I swap my home with another public housing tenant?
Under certain circumstances you can. Two or more households wishing to exchange accommodation may do so with the approval of the nearest Housing Services office. Tenants are responsible for making arrangements to swap with other tenants. Each tenant must complete the
House Swap Request form (52Kb).
Are there any conditions?
Yes. The following conditions must be satisfied by each household wanting to transfer to each other's home.
- Each tenant is eligible for the home to which he/she wishes to transfer.
- Each home has been properly cared for and maintained in accordance with the terms of the Residential Tenancy Agreement.
- The tenants involved sign a statement confirming they accept the home to which they wish to transfer in its current condition.
- Each tenant must have been a client of the department for longer than the waiting time of the home each tenant wishes to transfer to. (The date used is the date the tenant originally applied for rental accommodation.)
- Any rent arrears or sundry debts are paid in full before the transfer proceeds.
