Changes to public housing policy
Between July 2005 and December 2006, the department is changing the way rent is calculated for public housing tenants. The new rent calculation process is simpler, easier to understand, consistent and equitable.
From July 2005, the department introduced tenancies in reviewable properties for tenants who live in public housing properties that have access for people who use wheelchairs, or have five or more bedrooms and were built to house large families. To ensure that these types of properties are available for people who require these specific features (eg. wheelchair access or five or more bedrooms), tenants who live in houses with five or more bedrooms or houses that allow access for wheelchairs will need to demonstrate they need the specific features of that house to remain in it.
