While you are waiting for housing assistance

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander housing

Because your circumstances may change while on the register of need, it is important to keep the department informed to ensure your application is not cancelled.

What do I do if my personal details change?

You need to advise your nearest Department of Housing office if any of the following change:

If you move house, tell the department your new address. Your application can be cancelled if the department is unable to contact you.

On receipt of your new details, the department will confirm them with you in writing. If you do not receive any correspondence within three weeks, contact your nearest Department of Housing office.

Do I need to respond to letters from the department?

Occasionally you will receive mail from the department to check whether you still want housing assistance. It is important to respond to these letters - if you do not, the department will assume you no longer want or need housing assistance and will cancel your application.

What if I want to keep a pet in my home?

If you are thinking of keeping a pet in your home, please tell the department. Staff will advise you about the criteria for pets and how it might affect your application.

What do I need to do if I am going away on holiday?

Before you set off on your holiday, tell the department know how long you will be away, so that unanswered mail doesn't cancel your application.

What if my partner and I are no longer together?

If you and your partner are no longer together, tell the department as soon as possible. You may both be credited with waiting time on separate Applications for Housing Assistance provided you still need housing asssitance.

What if I no longer want housing assistance?

If you no longer need or want housing assistance, tell the department to remove you from the register of need.
