Support and funding for Community Housing agencies
The Department of Housing provides support and funding to a number of groups to provide a range of housing options to those in need.
Through its Community Rent Scheme, the department funds not-for-profit community-based organisations to provide short to medium-term accommodation to public housing applicants in severe and immediate housing need.
The department also provides capital funds for the purchase or construction and furnishing of properties for use as boarding houses through the Boarding House Program.
Through its Crisis Accommodation Program, the department funds not-for-profit incorporated community-based organisations and local governments for the purchase, construction, upgrade and lease of accommodation.
The Long Term Community Housing Program was designed to involve local government and not-for-profit community organisations in the provision of locally managed long-term rental housing for low-income earners whose needs are not adequately met by other housing options.
The Tenant Advice and Advocacy Service primarily aims to assist you to understand your rights and responsibilities as a tenant in your negotiations with lessors and real estate agents.
The Community Housing Resource Worker Program provides resourcing and support to assist housing and housing-related organisations, funded by Community Housing, in delivering high quality services to clients, and building viable organisations and a sustainable community-based service delivery system.
Home Assist Secure is a service that provides free information, referrals and subsidised assistance to older people and people with disabilities who wish to remain living in their home.
Through its Home and Community Care Home Modification Services, the department may provide information, assessment, project management and/or financial assistance with larger home modifications, such as ramps and bathroom adaptations.
The Same House Different Landlord Program provides public housing properties for use by not-for-profit community housing organisations for lease to tenants in need of crisis and transitional accommodation
The Drug Court Residential Program is part of a comprehensive, whole of government approach targeting illicit drug use and providing a new approach to break the cycle of drug addiction and crime.
