Crisis Accommodation Program

The Crisis Accommodation Program is an Australian Government funded program under the Commonwealth State Housing Agreement, operated and administered in Queensland by the Department of Housing.

It provides funds to eligible organisations for the purchase, construction, upgrade and lease of accommodation for people who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, in crisis or in need of transitional support as they move towards independent living.

The program complements the Supported Accommodation Assistance Program, which is administered by the Department of Communities and provides recurrent funding for salaries and operating costs for the provision of support services for homeless people.

Objectives

To provide accommodation to persons who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, in crisis or in need of transitional support in the move towards independent living. To achieve this objective, funded organisations may be involved, from time to time, in the development of accommodation models appropriate to agreed service delivery types which will meet identified needs.

The range of accommodation provided by the program is innovative and responsive to the special needs of clients.

Target groups

The program’s target groups include families, young people, singles, people escaping family violence and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
