The Australian Government’s Nation Building - Economic Stimulus Plan includes $6.4 billion for social housing over a three and half year period (2008-9 to 2011-12). An estimated $1.3 billion will be available for maintenance, upgrades and the construction of new social housing in Queensland.
An information paper was developed to outline the requirements for providers and not-for-profit organisations interested in applying for Nation Building funding to build and/or manage social housing.

Under stage two of the Social Housing Initiative, applications were sought from not-for-profit organisations that:
- wished to apply for capital grant funding for the development of social housing, could contribute land or other resources to the project and could demonstrate capacity to manage an increased supply of social housing, and/or
- were interested in expanding their portfolio of leased social housing properties under management.

Expressions of Interest – Tenancy Management for Social Housing (572Kb)
Applications for Capital Grant funding closed on 1 June 2009. The Expression of Interest process for Tenancy Management of Social Housing closed on 6 July 2009. All proposals for stage two capital grants and tenancy management were required to meet key selection criteria, including registration or preparedness to become registered under the Housing Act 2003, or are prepared to become registered.
