Homelessness National Partnership Agreement Implementation Plan

The Australian and Queensland Governments are providing $284.6 million over five years (2008-09 to 2012-13) to reduce homelessness in Queensland, as part of the National Partnership Agreement on Homelessness.

A Homelessness National Partnership Agreement Implementation Plan has been developed which identifies a range of new investment and reform activity to reduce homelessness in Queensland. Funding for new and expanded services will strengthen the capacity of the community services sector to assist homeless people into stable accommodation.

The Queensland Government will consult with the community services sector to finalise the development of new initiatives. Organisations will be advised of dates for funding rounds through a number of channels, including the Homelessness Reform Joint Working Group, the Supported Accommodation Assistance Program (SAAP) Networking strategy, peak bodies and other statewide networks, and the Department of Communities website.

Once the implementation schedule is confirmed, information about the local implementation of new initiatives will be available through Department of Communities regional offices. It is anticipated that some new or expanded services will be delivered from early 2010.

The initiatives outlined in the Implementation Plan represent the first steps towards achieving the Australian Government’s White Paper goals of halving overall homelessness and offering supported accommodation to all rough sleepers by 2020.

More information about the National Partnership Agreement on Homelessness is available on the department's website.
