Community Housing information bulletin – October 2009
Registered provider service reviews
The department has commenced service reviews of registered providers. Letters have been sent to all registered organisations with information about the service review process and framework.
As one of the components of the department’s Performance Management Framework, service reviews are a key mechanism for monitoring and improving registered providers’ compliance with obligations under the Housing Act 2003, Housing Regulation 2003 and funding contracts. Service reviews are also an opportunity for providers to improve their capability, sustainability and productivity to ensure quality service delivery and outcomes for clients.
A small number of reviews have already been undertaken. Providers have reported that the experience was positive and helped improve their understanding of their roles and responsibilities.
The Housing Provider Management unit will schedule and conduct reviews of all registered providers over a three-year rolling cycle. The type of review conducted —an on-site visit, desktop review or self-assessment — will depend on a range of factors, including the amount of funding or rental income received by the provider, the number of tenancies managed, previous compliance issues and accreditation status.
