Community Housing information bulletin – November 2009

Welcome to the thirteenth edition of the Community Housing information bulletin for 2009.

Review of National Community Housing Standards

The Department of Communities is coordinating a national review of the National Community Housing Standards. The aim of the review is to ensure the standards reflect contemporary best practice and areas of new business for community housing providers.

Queensland Shelter coordinated a consultation with community housing providers across the state between June and August 2009, as part of a national consultation on the revised standards.

Participants generally supported the proposed changes. Feedback received from providers included a need to clarify terms, avoid overly technical language and provide clearer guidelines for small and large organisations.

A summary of the consultation is available on the department’s website.

The third edition of the National Community Housing Standards Manual is expected to be available from early 2010.
