Community Housing information bulletin – Late-September 2009
Grants for communal vegetable gardens
The department's Tenant Participation program is offering a limited number of grants of up to $1,000 to assist tenant groups to purchase hand tools, seedlings and gardening knowledge to develop communal vegetable gardens.
Depending on the location and scope of the proposed garden, a project may also require garden soil, raised garden beds, fencing or storage for garden tools and supplies. These items are not covered by the grants, and their costs will need to be met from other sources.
It is a requirement that tenant groups have their community or local government housing provider's endorsement of the location and size of the garden before grants can be approved.
For more information and to obtain application forms, contact the Tenant Participation Unit on 3225 1983. Applications close on 15 October 2009.
