Update on the realignment of transitional housing
The Minister for Community Services and Housing, Karen Struthers, has given approval to implement new service delivery arrangements for transitional housing providers.
Approval has also been given to amend the Housing Regulation 2003, which will establish a transition period to allow providers and area office staff to prepare for the new service delivery arrangements. During this transition period, it is expected that providers will be required to inform applicants of the pending closure of provider waitlists and the need to be listed on the housing register to be considered for housing assistance.
An allocations policy for transitional housing and a revised combined allocations policy for long-term community housing and affordable housing providers will be published on the department's website prior to commencement of the amended Housing Regulation 2003 in November 2009.
Procedures and practice guides on the new allocation and transfer policies will be made available, and information sessions on the new arrangements will be held for transitional housing providers.
