Community Housing information bulletin – May 2008
This year is shaping up to be another year of significant change for social housing providers in Queensland. In 2007, we saw changes to the way community housing and affordable housing are provided with the introduction of new housing allocation policies and the duration of need policy.
While the changes placed pressure on both the sector and the department, staff rose to the challenge and the changes came into effect successfully and in very tight timeframes.
These new service delivery arrangements for long-term community housing and affordable housing represent a significant milestone in the creation of one social housing system. In a sustained period of low housing affordability in Queensland, we need to continue to ensure social housing and housing assistance is provided to the people who need it most.
It will continue to be a challenge to deliver valuable housing services in this period of high housing stress, at the same time as conduct a number of program reviews. However, we remain committed to working closely with providers and stakeholders to ensure good local coordination and effective service delivery.
