Transition to the one social housing system

Welcome to the second edition of Community Housing news. In this issue we bring you an update on the transition to one social housing system.

This edition also provides news of the Department of Housing’s Community Housing Direction Statement, ‘One Social Housing System - A new direction for community and local government-managed housing in the Smart State’, which was launched recently by the Minister for Public Works, Housing and Racing, the Hon. Robert Schwarten. This document outlines the department’s vision for community and local government-managed housing and housing-related services over the next five years to 2011.

The department has also been working on Stage Two of the transition strategy for community housing to the one social housing system.  A series of practical steps, timeframes and issues surrounding the adoption of the changes have been developed.  The aim is to make the transition process as simple and fair as possible for all those involved.

Providers of community and local government-managed housing will receive further information detailing Stage Two, but copies of the overall transition strategy can be viewed at Community Housing publications page.
