The Department of Housing is working with community and local government-managed housing organisations to improve the way housing assistance is delivered to Queenslanders.

One social housing system is a fairer and more transparent way to ensure the funding allocated for housing assistance is spent where it is needed the most, for the time that it is needed.

The staged implementation of one social housing system requires the review of all housing programs, services and infrastructure to assess their alignment or ‘fit’ with the new policy and service delivery context.

Comment on new resourcing framework to support community housing participation in one social housing system discussion paper closed on 11 February 2008. This discussion paper proposes a set of future resourcing arrangements and identifies the major transition issues in moving to the new arrangements.

The PDF Realigning transitional housing in one social housing system (183Kb) discussion paper identifies the key policy and operational changes required to align transitional housing with one social housing system. The paper is available for comment until 2 June 2008.

Not-for-profit organisations and local governments receive funds from the department to provide community-based solutions to local housing need through:

The department is committed to improving the way it exchanges information with community housing service providers in Queensland. One of the avenues developed to facilitate communication between service providers and the department is an Extranet called External link Community Housing On Line.

Through web-based technology, Community Housing On Line gives organisations in the sector access to a wide range of information tools, including departmental policy and procedures, a calendar of events, a communication centre and databases which were designed in consultation with sections of the Community Housing sector.

For more information, contact the department.
