Expression of interest 2006 - Strategy for Consolidation of Urban Organisations

In 2006, the Department of Housing released its vision for community housing in Queensland through its Adobe PDF document New Direction Statement for community and local government-managed housing (672Kb). One of the key aims of this vision is that by 2011, a robust and deliberately planned network of funded organisations will operate in a coordinated way as part of one social housing system, delivering timely, sustainable, quality services for Queenslanders.

In 2006, under the Strategy for Consolidation of Urban Organisations, Townsville, Greater Brisbane and Gold Coast were selected as regions with high housing need. Incentive funding of $10 million was provided to meet need and to enhance and accelerate merger activities in the regions. Thirty long-term properties were purchased in the three regions for leasing these providers which were selected through an expression of interest process (see Table 1.1). Successful organisations received leases and/or funds to promote consolidation in greater Brisbane and Gold Coast. Ten properties will be managed by the North Queensland Department of Housing office until a consolidation project is approved for Townsville region.
