An overview of Renewals program

What is the Renewals program?

Men carrying a large log
Renewals projects provide local employment opportunities.

The department's Renewals program encompasses three activities: Urban Renewal, Portfolio Renewal and Multi-Unit Renewal.

Through a combination of housing refurbishments and physical and social enhancements, the Renewals program aims to enhance identified properties whilst extending the useful life of departmental assets and offering improved quality of life for current and future residents.

Renewal programs target large social housing communities that have been disadvantaged by poor urban and social planning. These communities generally have a high concentration of social housing properties. Through the renewals program the department endeavours to transform these areas into attractive residential neighbourhoods that are commensurate with modern community standards.

The Multi-Unit Renewal activities specifically aim to increase amenity to tenants by improving the functionality and livability of units in complexes, whilst reducing significant tenancy management issues and improving the value of the department’s properties.
