Water Savings Report

Research House Annual Water Use Study Report

Australians can save 100,000L of water a year, slashing water bills by up to $55, by making their homes ‘smarter’ according to the Research House Annual Water Use Study Report.

The Department of Housing, in partnership with the Department of Public Works, has produced the Research House Annual Water Use Study Report to demonstrate the water savings that were achieved through water efficient technologies and designs in the Research House.

The Research House is an inhabited four-bedroom family home in Rockhampton, which is being used to test and validate new sustainable technologies, building practices and products.

This report documents the water savings achieved in the house from December 2002 to November 2003 through the use of water efficient designs, fittings and appliances.

Study of water use in the Research House has shown there is the potential for broad scale water savings to be achieved through households adopting these strategies. With increased water rates and tariffs, water saving in our homes can save consumers money and will have a positive impact on the environment.
