Overview
The Queensland Government seeks to improve Queenslanders' access to safe, secure, appropriate and affordable housing. Housing and Homelessness Services achieves this objective in a range of ways, from delivering traditional housing assistance to influencing the development of an effective and responsive housing system.
Housing and Homelessness Services forms part of the new Department of Communities. 
The Department of Communities Organisational Arrangements and Strategic Framework has been developed which outlines the department's organisational arrangements and our commitments, goals, objectives and key priorities.
Responses to housing need are guided by the Housing Act 2003 and the National Affordable Housing Agreement.
Former Deparment of Housing documents such as the Strategic Plan and strategic policy statements outline our strategic approach and key priorities.

The former Department of Housing's Strategic Plan 2008-2013 outlines our broad strategic directions to assist in planning until 2013.
The National Affordable Housing Agreement
The National Affordable Housing Agreement commenced on 1 January 2009 and provides a framework for governments to work together to improve housing affordability, reduce homelessness, and reduce Indigenous housing disadvantage.
The National Affordable Housing Agreement replaces the Commonwealth State Housing Agreement and the Queensland Indigenous Housing and Infrastructure Agreement 2005-2008.
Strategic Policy Statements
Improving People’s Lives Through Housing – An integrated approach to housing for people and communities complements the Strategic Plan. It is a key policy document explaining how the Housing and Homelessness Services programs contribute to improving housing accessibility, appropriateness and affordability for Queenslanders.
The Disability Service Plan 2007-2010 outlines how Housing and Homelessness Services will continue to improve its service delivery to clients with a disability, the actions we will take and how we will measure our success. The plan also describes how we will support members of our workforce who have a disability and reduce barriers to employment in the department for people with a disability.
Young People’s Housing Statement - This Statement, developed by the former Department of Housing and the Queensland Youth Housing Coalition, provides the vision that will guide Housing and Homelessness Services approach to better housing assistance for young people in the future.
