The Department of Housing has developed a Multicultural Action Plan that identifies the key objectives and outcomes to be delivered from 2007-10 under the Queensland Government policy,
Multicultural Queensland – making a world of difference. The plan will be reviewed annually.
This commitment will be implemented through actions that address the four strategies of the policy:
- Supporting communities
- Community relations and anti-racism
- Strengthening multiculturalism in the Queensland public sector
- Productive diversity economic strategy.
Achievements from the Multicultural Action Plan 2006-09 include:
-
providing $484,000 in funding for the Life Skills and Training for Multicultural Communities project that delivers training such as driving lessons and accessing banking facilities to migrants, refugees and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds in the Logan area
-
developing guidelines to help staff to use multilingual interpreting and translating services to communicate and provide written information in another language to clients, so people can access information about the department’s services and activities in their preferred language.
