Homelessness affects Queenslanders from all social and economic groups in the community—from single young people to families with children. People who are affected by homelessness can become disconnected from society, impacting on the whole community.

The Queensland Government’s Responding to Homelessness Strategy focuses on building existing initiatives and establishing new and innovative strategies to help homeless people in Queensland.

The Government’s goal is to ensure homeless people have access to accommodation and an integrated service system, which will lead to opportunities to re-engage with the community, to live a stable life, and to build a better future.

The PDF Responding to Homelessness booklet (503Kb) outlines the Queensland Government’s funding commitment of $235.5 million over four years to boost responses to homelessness, as announced in June 2005.

The PDF Responding to Homelessness brochure (755Kb) provides an update on the Government’s progress in addressing homelessness in Queensland and outlines the initiatives planned for 2007.

The PDF Mid-term Review of the Queensland Government’s Responding to Homelessness initiative (542Kb) was recently completed by The University of Queensland Social Research Centre. The Mid-term Review examined the processes and mechanisms supporting the initiative and the roll out and implementation of programs.

The PDF Summary of the findings of the Mid-term Review (34Kb) outlines the findings of the review and lists the actions the Queensland Government is taking in response to the results of the findings.
