Code of Conduct for staff

Foreword

The Department of Housing recognises that ethical practices are central to its ability to provide the best possible services to clients. The Code of Conduct demonstrates our commitment to act with integrity, professionalism and respect when performing our duties.

The Code is designed to help you understand your obligations as a public official, to ensure you meet the standards of conduct expected of you by both the Government and public, and to ensure that the department works for the benefit of the public, in an ethical and consistent manner.

This Code should be read and used in conjunction with any relevant legislation, policies and procedures which will assist you to perform your duties in an ethical manner.

In any instance where you remain uncertain about the correct course of action, you should seek advice from your supervisor, manager or an officer from the department’s Ethical Standards Unit. It is important to ensure you conduct yourself in accordance with this Code at all times. Failure to adhere to the obligations outlined in this Code may result in formal disciplinary action.

As Director-General, I will abide by this Code and I expect all employees of this department to read the Code and ensure you understand and demonstrate the standards of conduct expected of you.
