An overview of Freedom of Information

The Freedom of Information (FOI) Act 1992 provides a formal means for the public to apply for access to documents held by Government and ensure that documents concerning personal affairs are accurate.

The department has a series of frequently asked questions to help you in seeking the information you require.

All Freedom of Information applications must be in writing and provide such information concerning the document as is reasonably necessary to enable an officer to identify the document.

There are several forms to assist you in making your application, or you can contact us directly.
